map_paraguay_americaParaguay is split into an Eastern region (Paraguay Oriental) and a Western region (Paraguay Occidental) by the Rio Paraguay River.

The Southern border is marked by the Parana River, which holds the Itaipu dam which Paraguay co-own with Brazil. The Itaipu is the largest hydroelectric plant anywhere in the world - Paraguay use less than 10% of the electricity generated to power the entire country.

Paraguay is bordered by 3 countries - Bolivia, Argentina and Brazil.
